Advanced Class Fall 2008!
Advanced Class Fall 2008!
The fall Advanced Class was great. We started up at Henry's Lake in Idaho and we netted some real dandies. Those Cutbows run large and feisty that time of year. Then the next week we went to Strawberry and had a ball. I personally had 40 strikes and brought 18 beauties to the net. These fish are nice too. Not as fat but nothing under 18 inches with a couple near 24". As a group we did really well. I say over all we took more than 250 fish in less than 4 hours.
Trip 3 and 4 were great as always. It is this trip that I enjoy to most, nor so much because of the fishing, oh and it was good fishing, but rather the time I have to get to know everybody. For me it's not the days on the water as much as it is the chats over dinner.
We have such a good group with us at the moment that I truly hope they stick around. A good number did stay with us from the Spring Class, even though it was slow, that I feel most will hang. We got good numbers on the Snake but not very many large fish, well large Rainbows anyway. I put 34 in the net but stop fishing to help students too. I did however lose 6 boxes of flies when I dove into the river. (A fish pulled the rod out of my hand and I couldn't catch up to it fore it was being pulled down river, a dive was my only hope.
I got the rod but lost the flies.) Someone is going to be lucky to find one of those fly boxes.
On the Madison is where the students really got their groove. The fishing was hot and I did lots of teaching early. I think most everyone got at or near double figures before 2pm. I'm not sure why but the students stayed quite close not venturing very far up or down river, choosing to fish in over fished holes. Nevertheless we did take a lot of fish including some pigs.
All in all it was a good Fall Class!
